Could Moderators proposal lead to change in UK firearms certificate?

A public consultation has been initiated by the Home Office in regards to sound moderators for firearms which could lead to a change in the UK firearms certificate process. Fieldsports Guardian welcomes the news that comes in the early months of 2024, which could see the removal of the reference to sound moderators in the 1968 Firearms Act, which we hope could streamline the processing time of firearms applications across the UK.

Proposal that could lead to change in UK firearms certificate

The consultation will be seeking views on a proposal to amend the definition of firearm in section 57 (1) (D) of the Firearms Act 1968 by removing the reference to sound moderators.

The Home Office states that "Sound moderators are not dangerous as firearms, and removing them from firearms licensing controls does not have any implications for public safety."

Here at Fieldsports Guardian we encourage everyone involved in shooting and conservation to respond to the consultation and share their views with the Home Office, which could see much needed improvements to the UK firearms certificate application process.
